the Special Court in Bengaluru has declined the bail application of Prajwal Revanna, a suspended leader from the Janta Dal (S), in connection with a rape case filed against him at the Holenarasipura police station. Prajwal is currently in police custody until June 29 under investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for multiple cases, including one initiated following his arrest upon arrival from Germany at Bengaluru Airport on May 30.
The case against Prajwal stems from disturbing viral videos before the Lok Sabha elections allegedly showing him involved in acts of sexual assault. Prompted by a letter from the Karnataka State Commission for Women urging action, the state government formed the SIT to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Previously, Prajwal’s father and Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna faced arrest on charges related to the same case but was subsequently granted bail, with the SIT challenging this decision in the High Court. Prajwal’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, was also granted anticipatory bail in connection with the kidnapping case involving the complainant.
Meanwhile, Prajwal’s brother Suraj Revanna remains in police custody until July 1 in another case concerning alleged sexual abuse. The developments underscore a complex legal situation involving multiple members of the Revanna family amidst serious criminal allegations.
