Delhi Court Demands Report from DCP Regarding Police Officer Assaulting Individuals Offering Namaz
A Delhi court has taken notice of the recent incident involving a policeman kicking Muslim individuals who were observed offering namaz in a public space [Faraz Khan vs Sub Inspector Manoj Tomar and anr].
Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Kaushal of Tis Hazari Court has directed the concerned District Commissioner of Police (DCP) to submit an action-taken report by May 1, the next date of hearing.
The incident gained attention after sub-inspector (SI) Manoj Tomar was captured in a viral video assaulting those engaged in prayers near the Makki Jama Masjid in Delhi’s Inderlok area.
Following protests and widespread outrage on social media, SI Tomar was suspended on March 8.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Advocate Faraz Khan, the complainant in this case, argued that the incident constituted a violation of fundamental rights and disrupted societal harmony and peace.
“In perpetrating this egregious act, the accused and their team are responsible for disrupting social order… no action has been taken by the police officials against the accused individuals,” Khan asserted in his court complaint.
The Magistrate has subsequently requested an action-taken report from the area’s DCP.
